Introduction
to St. Paul Parish

St. Paul
Catholic Church in St Paul is the oldest Catholic Church in Oregon.
Founded by Father (later Archbishop) Francois Blanchet. The solid,
traditional religious foundation began by Father Blanchet continues
today. The large high altar, numerous statues, beautiful stained glass
windows, and an old set of Stations of the Cross remain and can be seen
in the church. The "body" of St. Victoria is encased below the high
altar.
Father
Blanchet immediately saw the need for Catholic religious education.
Thus, one of the first structures was a parish school, along with a
training school, and a college. The parishioners at great sacrifice
have continued the elementary school to this day.
Continuing
a long-standing tradition, tour groups are encouraged to learn more
about this historic church, it’s restructuring after the
’93 earthquake and other tidbits of information. Guests are
always welcome to tour the church and experience the spirit of St.
Paul. Unfortunately, due to vandalism of so many churches, the church
is kept locked. The Pastor is often at home and will happily open the
church or give a tour. So call in advance 503.633.4611 or stop by the
rectory.
